Last week it was my wife's 40th birthday! She is an incredible woman and I am very lucky to have her in my life. Amazing to think that we've spent the whole of our 20s and 30s together - over half my life (I'm a year younger), We met when I was 18 and she was 19 and I love the life we've created together.
The bar staff, although smartly dressed, struggled with some of the drinks... |
My wife was keen to have a party so we hired the village hall, and I got brewing and baking!
The brewing had to start quite a bit further back though - it was my wife's idea to have a free bar, but one where we'd produced most of the booze!
I got a bit ambitious with the cake, went for three tiers which very nearly made me have a breakdown - lol! In fact I was trying to put it all together on Friday evening when my eldest came home from a playdate, she turned to my middlest and asked why she was helping and was in the other room - "Daddy needs a minute on his own..." she replied!
Very ambitious! The cake is amazing and I'm sure a good time was had by all. Happy Birthday to the Mrs.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteIt all looks delicious and sounds wonderful Kev! I hope the drink staff was tipped appropriately...
ReplyDeleteThey Were!
DeleteWhat a unique idea for a birthday party! Would have liked to see more pictures, especially of the birthday girl, but I'm sure you were very busy. Maybe along with the bar staff you should have hired a photographer! Happy (belated) Birthday, Mrs. English Homestead! You have a wonderful family.
ReplyDeleteWe had a photo booth there - so lots of fun photos of everyone to look at the next day!
DeleteHappy Birthday to your lovely wife! You two have indeed created a wonderful life together. Along with a wonderful family!
ReplyDeleteThe cake is brilliant; very clever! So glad the whole thing was a success.

DeleteWell done all of you. The cake is magnificent and the drinks list unbelievable. Sounds like a good time was had by all.
ReplyDeleteI just wish my white wine and beer ahd been ready - still it was a good selection!
DeleteLooks like pure happiness. A friend of mine turned 40 recently and her husband made a cake for her; he didn't have enough candles so he reused some of their kids candles, an 8 and a 5, and explained that the years have "multiplied." Good dad joke, imo.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of that. When my wife was about 36 I managed to find that number of candles but it was a fire risk!
DeleteThat cake is amazing - another talent - and it sounds like a wonderful party. same again next year for you?!
ReplyDeleteIt tasted good! I'm not sure about a party for me. I have a few other ideas at the moment.
DeleteWhat an amazing cake!!! Your wife must've been so pleased. Happy birthday to her!!!
