Our breeding flock is for meat really, so when we want some more egg layers we tend to get hybrids. Some we buy in, sometimes we get given ex commercial birds. This lot we had to buy!
8 new ladies, that seem very calm and settled already.
They're POL and haven't started laying yet! Hopefully it'll be any day now, we want eggs on toast for breakfast again.
Very nice. We got new chickens this year as well, and just got our first pullet eggs yesterday.

ReplyDeleteSo ones that have come from a big laying operation. Still free ranged, but in sheds of 10,000 birds or more.
DeleteI miss raising chickens but we have the next best thing. We buy all our eggs from a lady who raises chickens.
ReplyDeleteLately we've been doing the same thing with buying our eggs. I should have got some more sooner.
DeleteI miss having poultry as well. Beyond just the eggs aspect, they are a pleasure to watch.
ReplyDeleteI love watching the hens. We have so many old hens and cockerels around the place, they're always up to soemthing.
