No, this is the leaves of a tomato, not poisonous! Remember for a long time people thought the fruit of the plant was poisonous.
Like Connie, I've always assumed that since they were a nightshade that eating them wasn't a good idea. But google assured me that I would have to eat a pound to get seriously sick and that would be a lot of pesto!
Yeah, don't eat as a steamed green, but used as a herb it's amazing.
