Team Freezer Prep

The other night, while I was making tea I picked half a bucketful of French beans. With a quick shout to the living room two helpers appeared to help me prep them (the eldest went off to pick tomatoes).

In fact I didn't do any of the French beans, instead leaving the youngest two to top and tail them, then weigh them out into freezer bags for use later in the year.

As well as leaving us enough out to steam to have with one of our beautifully roasted Indian Game hens and rice.

They love helping put food down for winter - good job as well otherwise it can get a bit overwhelming!

Anyone else make use of their helpers when it comes to food prep?

Eating A Frozen Chip

I had a moment of sheer revulsion this weekend.

And that's not easy, I'm not a squeamish person.

But watching my friend eat a FROZEN OVEN CHIP (fries to the Americans on here), straight from the bag, like it was the most normal thing in the world turned my stomach.

What's worst was he was surprised that we didn't all do it! He was convinced that his wife would think it was normal as well, but she was as disgusted as the rest of us.

Do you think it's normal?

What do you eat that everyone else finds disgusting?

Defrost The Freezer

Sometimes the excitement in my life knows no bounds.
One of the first jobs I did this year was to defrost the freezer that stands in our dinning room.
As you can see from the picture above it was long overdue, drawers were hard to open, there were things in there that I had no idea what they were, a polar bear had taken residence in the top box - it was time for a sort out!

I took everything out, sorted through it all, chucked away some old stuff, shuffled it round so I knew what we had, stored the good stuff in the other freezer then set about defrosting it, towels at the ready.

Not sure why I put it off so long, it's so much easier now I can see what everything is and can get stuff out of the back of it. Before it was like my dirty little secret, I'd try to open it so people didn't see in!

Anyone else have a freezer that looked like mine or is it just me that lets things get this bad?

New Freezer

Well It's not new. Not by a long stretch!
The freezer we've had here for the last couple of years
Since moving from our old place there's been a few things I've missed, like not having space for our chest freezer, this really makes it hard to preserve anywhere near the amount of food that we used to.
Our little one, shoved in the dinning room, not looking very pretty, has tried to keep up with all we want freezing. But by the time we've froze a few pots of apple sauce and a few rabbits and pheasants shoved in it, there is little room for anything else.
Our new Bosch tall freezer - £30 was a bit of a bargain. A+ energy rating (the sticker was still on it!)
Enter our "new" £30 freezer. Picked up from a job I've been working on last week. It's got a few knocks and scrapes but nothing a few fridge magnets won't cover up. It's going to have to live in it's little brothers place for now and it won't look great towering above us during meal times, but it will mean we can freeze a lot more and save more money in the process!
