Cutting Grass

I didn't put cutting hay as the title as we're probably going for silage, but it doesn't matter as today we finally cut the grass on our three fields! This is long overdue but with the weather being rubbish and being so busy it just hasn't happened.
Good 'old john Deere

Dad's kit is massive in these little fields so they were mown in no time at all and as it's a mower conditioner it fluffs the hay as well, saving having to turn it the first time. I didn't get to mow the grass myself this year (new mower so no chance) but hopefully by next year I should start to get some of my own kit for mowing, turning and bailing.
Down side to big kit - can't mow under the trees very well
There seems to be plenty on the field and it looks like good stuff, just got to hope for good weather now!

  1. Nice equipment, I really need something like that as I am cutting with a scythe now though I get lots of exercise!

    1. I think I'd be there a while with a scythe! One day I'll get some kit of my own, but for now this will do...

  2. A scythe would do under the trees really easily!

    1. A strimmer might be more likely I'm afraid, unless I could be taught to use a scythe like Death out of Terry Pratchett!

    1. I was brought up to only drive tractors that are green and yellow. I had a childhood where I was in my John Deere overalls more than I was out of them!

  4. Everywhere I go there's Jane with her John Deere fetish...lol!!

You can't beat good old John Deere though can you, ours seems huge here on our new place, we've only got 4 acres, it seemed much more useful on our last place.

Possibly going to put it on the market, but first my Lovely Hubby is looking after 'her' and bringing 'her' up to scratch, boys and their toys!!

    1. A big tractor is such a better idea than these hobby tractors though! The kit that fits on it is build for proper farmer and so it has to last. I've got my dads old tractor coming here on "loan" soon so I'm looking forward to having one - should make some jobs much easier!
