First Egg

Although I've kept plenty of chickens in the past it's always great when you get your first egg off your new chickens, and we did on sunday.

Chicken Entertainment Centre
One of our daughters silkie bantams laid the little white egg and although I dont think they will ever earn their keep, at least they're trying!
First egg, a little small though...
Mind you the bantams are worth their weight in gold when they keep our little girl entertained, even if it's for just long enough for my wife to peg out the washing. We call it our Chicken Entertainment Centre and I might try and patent it! Only use if you want your child to turn into a bumpkin though!

  2. Nothing wrong with bumpkins! I recall a similar photo of me (in black and white of course)being entertained by my Grandma's neighbour's pigs!

  4. I echo Jane....absolutely nothing wrong with bumpkins!!

A lovely entertainment centre and no plastic involved. Bantam eggs are wonderfully tasty they have a larger yolk in relation to the white than regular chicken eggs.

A perfect little meal for your little one, eggs from her own hens.

  5. Nothing wrong with chicken entertainment nor with 'bumpkins'!! Also a great occasion when the first egg is laid that indicates the chooks are laying again!!!

    1. Yeah we had another from the bantams today. I think it will be the middle of next month before we have any from my laying hens though as they are only young at the moment.

    1. She does! Although she looks just as happy chewing on the baby wipe packet or when she's pulling my hair!

  7. When my grandson comes to visit every week, the first things he asks to do is see the "deet-deets" (chickens!). He loves them and we are hopefully raising the next generation of chicken-lovers!

    1. They're the first thing any child coming round wants to see! I've no doubt my daughter will be a chicken lover (she's got no choice anyway). Thanks for your comment

  8. It's not the size that counts and that little egg would be lovely hard boiled with a nice salad.
Love your little daughter, how cute.
