Summer Harvests

There's certainly something about this time of year and the harvests that it brings.

The kids are particularly in love with it and keep coming back with huge saucepans of tomatoes and cucumbers.

I keep (mistakenly) thinking that we'll get to cook with them, but nope they'll eat one of these in a single sitting. The other day my wife had to talk the children out of eating tomatoes for breakfast! They have a habit of eating too much fruit and veg as it is, so to add it in for breakfast would be too much .

So what's your favourite thing for a summer glut of tomatoes? just to eat them like we do or do you take it to another level?

Packed Summer Already!

It's been a busy couple of weeks and a lot has been going on. Sometimes it's good to just take a minute look back at it. Especially in this mid day heat - great to have an excuse to be inside!

Helping me make elder flower champagne. My youngest daughter was so funny. She tried a bit and then said "OHHHH, it's LOVELY, can I take some in my water bottle to preschool?" Er no...
The children and I have been busy foraging lots of elder flowers for making champagne, wine, cordial and fritters! I plan to do a post on all of these soon but the kids have loved helping out!

My wife had a day off last week as a day in lieu of working a weekend on a school trip, it was lovely to spend the day with her, we even managed to get up the hills for a walk before it got too hot in the morning.

Summer

As a nation, we Brits do like to moan about the weather.
But I'd like to say, as a man that works outside quite a bit, that this summer has been amazing for weather so far.
My little helper
We've had plenty of sun and plenty of rain so the veg is looking great (if a little weedy) and everything seems to be growing well, bushes full of fruit and young trees all coming along nicely. All completely different to 12 months ago! How does everyone elses veg garden look this year compaird to last year?
