What Did My Wife Marry?

I tell people that my wife new what she was getting into when she married me, but sometimes I think she didn't realise quite how far down this slippery slope I'd get!
Full waterproofs at 6.30 this morning to get the sheep in.

The main trouble is that my girls will grow up thinking this is normal!

  1. It is more normal than some-one flaunting designer labels, its a vision of hard honest work :-)

  2. Kev it is a far better normal than loads of children grow up in.

    1. It's a very different normal but also a great life. I was laughing to myself as my eldest was pretending to cut up her stuffed pig and cook it in her oven the other day - theirs no doubt in her mind where food comes from!

  4. Kev - your wife knew exactly what she was getting into - she was getting the best: a husband who could be a stay at home Dad and a wonderful man! your wife is a lucky devil and she knows it!!! your girls are probably the only girls in the world that i don't worry about - being raised in a loving home with a father who will always be their heroe - they are not going to settle for some idiot - they will have incredibly high-expectations from their future husbands and it is all attributable to you! i feel so sorry for any man that falls in love with your girls - those men will have to be supermen to live up to your girls' expectations! i am super glad that your girls have such an example of what a man is through their father. it is through men like you, my jambaloney, Pioneer Preppy and Harry Flashman, and others, that women and girls will be able to know what a true man is and how to pick the wheat from the chaff.

i send much love! your friend,
    kymber

    1. Kymber you're make me blush with your lovely comment!
Of course it could all go the other way and they want someone that just has a nine to five job and spends the rest of their time relaxing! Anyway it's a long time till their 30 and I let them date...

  6. Well it wasn't for your fashion sense ;-)

I guess she married you because she saw a hard working, good looking bloke who would make a wonderful husband and an even better father, She got it pretty right .... clever woman.

Now stop fishing for compliments and round up the bloody sheep!!

    1. I wasn't fishing but reading it back it could come across as that! It's funny when she married me I had a very successful (and well paid) job in middle of Birmingham, I used to wear a shirt and everything but she knew it wasn't making me happy, that's why I went back to working with my hands and enjoying what I do again. I don't think many women would put up with it like she did and I feel very lucky to have her.

    2. It sounds so like us. When we met I was a shop manager and had to dress smart, and LH has to be really smart in his job, collar, tie and full suit ...... now look at us!!

  9. I think it is far more likely that your children will grow up knowing they have a hard working and responsible father who loved them. A father that wanted to give them a sustainable life.

    1. Maybe, or they'll resent the fact that I make them work! It could go either way I think!

  10. Its all who you are asking what is normal. :O). My husband tells me I am one a kind, not another one like me out there, as he laughs. He always says he wouldn't trade me. I am sure your wife feels the same way, not another one like you out there and she wouldn't trade you for anything. Don't ya know farm girls like it when their guys put on their farm gear :O).

Your girls are super lucky to be growing up in such a loving home with both their parents and on a working farm! A perfect life to my way of thinking! I agree with Kymber their husbands I am sure will hear "my dad this or that" a lot! They will figure out fast what your girls are used to seeing in a guy. That's ok though, if those guys are worth their salt they will be fine with that.

    1. Yes, I agree with everything that Kymber and Texan say, and those future boyfriends of your daughters have a hell of a lot to live up to...gee whizz, your wife's a lucky girl!

  11. Why are you fetching sheep in at 0630?

    1. My wife goes top work just after seven and she was going to be late back (she got home about 9 due to a school play) so it was my only time without the children to get them in - I need to do the same again tomorrow. I'm still having foot problems so every time I see a lame ewe I try to get them in and deal with it straight away.

  16. My husband used to wear suits, complete with white shirt and tie, to work, and looked extremely smart and clean all the time, but now he looks the exact opposite, is mucky most of the time, and looks all the better for it! You are a 'proper' bloke, Kev, like my husband is!
