Last week my girls and my wife had to go back to school on the Monday, but the youngest got an extra day off.
I had planned to get some jobs done, as I had only realised he'd be with me the day before! But the jobs would work well together.
We collected and stacked some firewood I'd been meaning to pick up for ages - the field had just been so wet!
We also pickled a huge batch of eggs for eating later in the year (in balsamic vinegar so they're extra posh).
And he helped me make tea, plus he cooked a cake all by himself. He normally has his sisters with him, and isn't as confidant about his cooking as them, he was so pleased with his cake!
I was pleased with how many jobs we'd got done through the day, but felt a little guilty about how many chores I' made him do on his last day of holiday.
As I put him to bed he said "Thanks for a lovely day dad," Was such a nice feeling.
