Repairing A Chicken Coop I Built - Part 1

So in 2013 I built a chicken coop for a load of ex battery hens we had at the time. It was a great coop, mobile and perfect for ten hens to lay in. 

A few years later I converted it to use as a broody coop for raising chicks when we had lots of young meat birds. We would keep them in here for 4 weeks or so, until they were off the heat. 

But 13 years later and the coop is a little worse for wear. 

The roof was the onduline sheeting, a product I won't be using again. Even when I supported it evenly, over time it still sags. 

 

I don't think the cat sleeping on it helps very much ether to be honest! The stuff is as soft as the crust on a fresh white loaf of bread by the end. Far better to use tin I think in future. 

So we started to strip it down, removing anything that was rotten, or too warped to be reused. 

Trouble was there wasn't much left by end! I almost regretted starting it. 

I still need to replace the bracing. Then it's just a case of adding a new floor, new door, new cladding, new roof, new nest box (for the heating plate and stuff) and new wired outside area. 

Only a few bits then! 

If we get this done in the next few weeks we'll probably get some day old meat birds again. I've missed having them the last few years.
