Christmas Pudding Steaming

Today is the first time this season having both fires running.

So I've escaped upstairs away from the heat!

My wife has been making the Christmas puddings with my daughters - normally she does this with friends but that's not possible this year.

Great to steam them for a few hours without using any electric and heating the house up in the bargain!

    1. jaz, you do not have to use suet, you can replace with the same quantity of grated butter. Freeze butter first. Will give a softer, but richer flavour.

  2. Look at that stove! It’s lovely! I’ve a gas stove for the first time in thirty years and am loving it! My typical holiday pudding is a persimmon pudding, but am I a heretic for not adding the currants and walnuts? I learned to love it made with butter, it is amazingly rich!

  3. I should look at making a pudding, but with just 2 of us, is it worth it. My mum each year would give us our pudding, we would pop it in the larder and bring out the year before, mum made a pudding for every household, always tasted better have matured for a year.

  4. Sadly, I'm clueless about a true English Christmas pudding. It comes up every year when we watch "Christmas Carol," but that's as far as it gets. Very nice your wife could do this with your girls! Maybe a new tradition is forming.

  5. That's an amazing stove! I don't make pudding but did make the annual fruitcakes with my sisters, via Zoom. It was fun.
