Another project for another magazine article! This time some extra storage for mason jars.
I've been planning to make this since I made the door for the pantry. I built the door strong enough to take it.
As it's on the door, it's only for dry goods or empty jars. I carved this by hand on to the rails of the shelves. No excuses then for anyone to forget.
Didn't take too long to build and hopefully will last a long time and help us deal with some of the jars in the house!

I've got a similar looking one in my pantry though mine is a bit wider and it is attached to the wall instead of a door. I sized mine to span two stud bays or 32 inches wide here in the States and then drilled some discreet pocket holes on the inside vertical supports to attach it firmly to the wall. Mine holds full jars, somewhere around 75 or so, which is quite a bit of weight. In my system, it is just our intermediate stocking point. I have much bigger shelves in the basement that probably hold around 400 jars and their contents. Maybe once every couple months, I carry full jars up from there to put in pantry shelf and haul empty jars down to store until next canning session. Of course mine don't have the fancy hand carved lettering on them. Hire out?
