Why I Fell Out Of Love With Social Media in 2025 & Why 2026 Will Be Different

So I had been thinking about making this video for a while, with a new year it seemed like the right time.

I want to say that the blog is not in this negative spiral, I love this blog and that I have people read it, it feels like mine, unlike twitter, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.

This video is me opening up about those other spaces and about how, as a small business owner, I can't opt out, and in an ironic way how I don't want to, but also how I don't want all the worlds worries all the time.

Thanks for reading my blog and the support I've had from so many of you for so long. It has meant so much to me and I have no intentions of stopping any time soon.

  1. Glad to hear the blog will live on. I so enjoy learning about all you do on your homestead. It's a world away, but so similar to some of the things I embrace here in the U.S. Continued success to you.

  3. I have a love/hate relationship with social media too. I intentionally limit my intake of it by just not using it over the weekends. I also have thinned out the lists so that I am not reading posts by those who are always not in a frame of mind that I want to be in, i.e. always posting about politics or the sadness in their lives. I think I am much better for doing so. I do keep blogger but it has always been more about therapy for me than contacting others. It is a place to write about what it floating around my mind and the act of typing it into a post often times clarifies things so I can file them away and move on.

  4. I am going to agree with you. I am trying to sell feed on FaceBook marketplace but I don't want to have "friends" I don't know. Instagram seems like a continual assault of opinions and dumb memes and the temptation to join in is too strong. I miss the blogging community of 15 years ago. Lots of Farmers are on TikTok, but I look weird and sound funny.

  5. I'm glad you're keeping going with the blog - on the whole a good place. I can see how you need all the other stuff but by God what a very thick skin you need.

  6. That was a great video Kev, and reflects a lot of what I have felt over the last year about the Socials. You are doing a great job; keep on keeping on.
