My Son recently turned 10. He asked for an axe for his birthday - who wouldn't?
I managed to pick up three really beautiful axes for him to work up to. The biggest was a lovely old Brades axe, in need of a cover though!
I'd been thinking of making another style of wooden axe cover for a while and I had a woodcarving magazine article due.
This one is a little harder to make than the first, just because the case swings up from a pivot point, but it's fairly simple other than that.
TI chose a simple design I'd been using for a drawer front in the workshop, one I found on an old piece of furniture.
He loved it when I gave it to him, hopefully it'll last him many years and will protect the edge of his axe.
