Can Storage Door Revisited

One of my favourite projects I've made has been my Tin Can Storage Door
I made this a couple of winters ago and we use it most days.
It makes the small space I've got set aside for food storage so much more useful, it clearly displays all the tinned food, rotates stock and takes up very little room.

I know I posted about this when I made it but I thought I'd do a little video of it in action.
Sorry I'm so full of cold in it! I sound quite bunged up!

My little girl is super cute at the end though - what a little star!

Has anyone else made anything similar?

Let me know what you think and share the idea with friends so they can increase their food storage as well!

  1. Wonderful Kev, love it! Back to the washing machine...Which have just brought out a new report, this time on the Bosch WAT24420GB which they rave about and recommend as a Best Buy. No idea of the price or anything though.

    2. Thanks Sue! We were thinking of spending what ever we needed to to get a good one, luckily we got given one instead! I must do a post on it!

  2. I really like the way your store your tins (cans) of food. Your ideas are good and workable. Thanks for sharing.

  3. I thought it was brilliant the first time that you posted about it, and I still do. It's nice to actually see it in action.

Lovely little film, and your co-star is adorable :-)

  4. I'm totally in love with your can storage system, and I've just shown it to my better half. Given that he has just built us a larder cupboard, I may have to wait a while before I get one. This is now on my wish list!

  5. Every home should have one. You should sell the idea to a kitchen door company.

  8. This is amazing. I really wish we had one. Don't buy in too many canned goods but maybe something like this for home-canned foods? Hmmmm....

    1. Might not be best to store the glass masons jars on top of each other but I bet there's something you could do. I'm trying to built my stock of home canned food but there never seems enough time!

  9. Excellent idea, you should sell the idea to a kitchen manufacture.

  10. Pure genius. All it needs is a slot for inserting coins, and a hole for the exiting can!

    1. Most are from Lidl so you wouldn't need many toys!

  11. Hi Kev, I really think you should try and make these as a flat pack. Can storage is really expensive and when you look for it, it is normally huge rack shelves that here in the UK are un-workable in not only a modern home but more modest older houses. I would buy at least 2. And I am not worried about assembling it myself if it is already pre-drilled holes and has all the bits in it to fit it together.

    1. Sol, it's certainly something I'm thinking about doing. A friend and I have built a CNC machine so that would be great for me to cut repeat parts.
Who knows - Watch this space!

  12. That is amazing Kev, looks super sturdy and your helper at the end was equally magnificient. Just today My hubbie said we should be making some videos about our grain bin house. We shall see. Now I need to show him this can door so he can make me one!
